Results of Episode 3
The show changed things up this week, as as each residents' interest was not depicted through text messages, but through gifts. Each of the four men bought Christmas gifts, which were then placed underneath the Christmas tree. Without knowing which gift corresponded with which man, the three women chose the gifts, and next week will go on dates with the men whose gifts they chose.Additionally, every member was asked whom they would want to go on a date with. Those results are shown here:
* 오영주 (Oh Young Ju) => 김현우 (Kim Hyun Woo)
* 임현주 (Lim Hyun Ju) => 김도균 (Kim Do Gyun)
* 송다은 (Song Da Eun) => 김현우 (Kim Hyun Woo)
* 김도균 (Kim Do Gyun) => 임현주 (Lim Hyun Ju)
* 정재호 (Jeong Jae Ho) => 송다은 (Song Da Eun)
* 이규빈 (Lee Gyu Bin) => 임현주 (Lim Hyun Ju)

Given first choice, Da Eun selected the (A) the earring and necklace set. Selecting second, Young Ju selected (C) the muffler and roses. Third, Hyun Ju selected the (D) necklace. Through another round of rock-paper-scissors, Da Eun won the opportunity to go on an additional date, selecting (B) the charm bracelet.
Discussion
The big news here is that we have the beginnings of two mutual connections: Kim Do Gyun and Lim Hyun Ju have shared interest, as well as between Kim Hyun Woo and Oh Young Ju.
The highlight of the episode is the trip the three women take to Hyun Woo's restaurant for a late lunch. Hyun Woo prepares what appears to be a delicious meal for them, all the while showing off his many talents and charms in the care he puts into each dish, in serving his guests, and his love of aesthetically beautiful things like his collection of Japanese plates and bowls.
Nevertheless, the camera picks up that Hyun Woo's attention seems to return time and time again to Young Ju.
Even as they discuss his having guessed Young Ju to be 30, he explains that he saw it as a compliment and was commenting on how she looked mature, rather than old.
Da Eun seems to sense that there is a shared connection between the Young Ju and Hyun Woo, even as Da Eun herself is most interested in Hyun Woo. After all, it was she who first asked if they could go to his restaurant, and she also was driving much of the conversation during lunch.
Nevertheless, until Hyun Woo is given a chance to explore his long interest in Young Ju, it appears that Da Eun's interest may go unreturned.
Hyun Ju seems to have bounced back from receiving no texts the previous episode by continuing to do what she does best -- be friendly and open with her smiles and laughter.

And Young Ju appears to return this interest, as she moves to sit across from Hyun Woo for the meal.
As we already know, Hyun Woo recognized Young Ju despite their never formally meeting, as she had been a frequent customer to his restaurant. Something about her had already caught his eye in the past, and now he is given an opportunity to explore that interest in her.Even as they discuss his having guessed Young Ju to be 30, he explains that he saw it as a compliment and was commenting on how she looked mature, rather than old.

She shared many moments with Do Gyun. They laughed about him holding onto the butter as they toasted bread together at breakfast. She complimented his hair, telling him she preferred it down rather than his usual style. (Indeed, he appeared to leave his hair down for the rest of the day)
She even told him he reminded her of Gong Yoo, a very famous and attractive Korean actor.
As Do Gyun talked with his brother-in-law, it became apparent that he was drawn to Hyun Ju's cheerful and sunny disposition.
Hyun Ju appears to have also caught the eye of Gyu Bin. He reflected this episode that he may now be at a disadvantage, being not only the youngest man in the house, but younger than all the women as well.

While we know from last episode that he had interest in Young Ju, he appeared to hit some walls today.
While asking for discounts on laptops is a common discussion among friends, and especially with students, here it only served to highlight the disparity between their current status: she works for one of the most prominent companies in the world, and he's still finishing school. While he may some day be someone she can look up to, it does not appear that she can see him in that light just yet.
Furthermore, where Hyun Ju might respond to situations like that, as well as when he suggests they speak more informally despite their age difference, with an easy laugh and smile, Young Ju often responds with more hesitance and sometimes an awkwardness that perhaps sends mixed signals to Gyu Bin. He simply does not know where he stands in her eyes.
Anytime the camera finds Gyu Bin and Hyun Ju talking, you can instantly tell that there is a sense of ease and casualness between them. They make each other laugh as they take turns putting on his eyeglasses. While Hyun Ju seems to be more interested at the moment with Do Gyun, one could easily imagine Hyun Ju and Gyu Bin developing mutual interest as well.
And finally, the episode finds little time this week for Jae Ho, as he has not had many opportunities to connect with any individual woman on the show.
For two episodes, he has selected Da Eun, but other than receiving a text from her on the very first night, little progress has been made. Instead, we see him act almost as a sad, abandoned puppy, half-joking that no one wants to help him move his things upstairs, and remarking on how beautifully dressed all the women were as they were leaving the house to eat at Hyun Woo's restaurant.
Perhaps this is done in jest, but it appears that his act does not yet appeal to any of the women in the house, at least in a romantic sense.
Random Thoughts
- Really the best way to describe Jae Ho so far is encapsulated in one term: FOMO.
- Sometimes if I don't listen carefully, I've begun to mistake Da Eun's voice for Hyun Ju's. Da Eun has started bringing out her cute voice a lot more, which Hyun Ju uses almost exclusively, whereas Young Ju has yet to do much to appear more cute.
- The big exception being that weirdly cute "potato"-"thank you" pun. Notice the only time she's really acted cute is in front of Hyun Woo.
