Discussion
The big winners this week are Do Gyun and Da Eun! What a change from the previous week! In a stunning upset, Do Gyun went from zero texts to getting all three texts from the girls. Meanwhile, Hyun Ju went from getting all the texts from the guys to getting zero, as Da Eun dominates with three messages received and Young Ju gets one message.
It would appear that Do Gyun made quite an impression this week, especially with his efforts in the kitchen.
While it is clear that Do Gyun is far from an experienced cook (not realizing that the electric stove was not plugged in; not knowing to boil the water prior to putting in the dry noodles; overcooking the noodles and turning them into "udon"), the others clearly appreciate his earnest efforts and thoughtfulness. As they say, it is often the thought that counts.
He had his moment with Da Eun, cooking together and sharing laughs.
Despite ultimately not being able to give Young Ju a ride into the city in the morning, she still approached him first in helping with a heavy box.
And everyone seems to recognize that his underneath his quiet persona is a thoughtful person who listens and observes well, both in his personal and professional life.
Da Eun, meanwhile, seemed to connect well with many of the guys tonight. She lent a helping hand to Do Gyun, while also showing her skill in the kitchen.
With newcomer Hyun Woo, she seemed to connect with him in recognizing his ties to Japan, showing interest in his past there, and even speaking a few words in Japanese, which got a rare laugh from him.
With Jae Ho, she complimented his ability to speak well, giving him positive feedback to his various comments and responding to his jokes with an easy laugh.
Finally, her occupation reveal seemed to be a somewhat vulnerable moment for her. She shared her dream of being an actress, but also spoke honestly about facing the reality that she can't yet earn her living through her dreams. She displayed an industrious spirit in being able to both pursue her dreams while also assisting in her family's business.
Finally, Gyu Bin had consistently shown interest in Hyun Ju, who had appeared to be the youngest of the female residents. They had shared many laughs and friendly moments over the past two episodes, including in the morning when he made her a cup of tea.
However, Hyun Ju revealed that, while she is younger than the other two ladies, she is only younger by one year and is actually 26 (and one year older than Gyu Bin). The psychologist on the panel astutely observed that, when Gyu Bin learned her age, his "Ok ok ok" may have been a way of masking his disappointment.
Meanwhile, Young Ju came out of the occupation reveal with perhaps the most impressive resume among the women.
Having graduated from an American university and now working for a prominent foreign company in marketing certainly makes Young Ju someone to reckon with, especially for a man looking to enter public service and political life. Gyu Bin appeared to be rather impressed with her.
Learning each others' occupations and ages is always an important moment for Koreans, but we are still in the early stages of the show. As it progresses, the Signal House residents are sure to reveal more of themselves to each other, and each resident will learn what attracts them to another. It would be safe to assume that many more seismic shifts are to come for the hearts of these residents.
